The fertile soils of the lezíria, horses and bulls, the revelry of kings and noblemen.
Golegã is a Portuguese town belonging to the District of Santarém, famous for the National Horse Fair. The Pure Blood Lusitano (PSL in its Portuguese acronym) is the oldest saddle horse in the world, ridden for approx. 5000 years and recognised by the Greeks and Romans as the best saddle horse of antiquity.
Portugal is the place of origin of this breed and Golegã is recognised worldwide as the Horse Capital. The Pure Blood Lusitano is recognised as the horse of equestrian art and bullfighting, but its natural aptitude continues to surprise in the most diverse disciplines, such as show jumping, dressage or hitching competitions.”
Golegã's strong connection to the world of horses, bulls and its traditions, reaches its climax at the S. Martinho Fair, currently the International Lusitano Horse Fair, which annually attracts thousands of national and foreign visitors. A beautiful and unique horse show that includes rallies, raids, games, championships, picnics, parties, equestrian school exhibitions, horse riding symposiums, auctions, horse-ball tournaments, Portuguese horse riding costume contests, etc.
A truly unmissable event.
